Spicy Korean Q Wings (Wingstop Copycat)

Description

Crispy homemade chicken wings tossed in a sweet, smoky, spicy Korean-style sauce inspired by Wingstop’s Korean Q flavor. Easy, bold, and perfect for wing night.

Ingredients 

Gochujang Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang, see note below
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup scallions, diced, or green onions

Korean Chicken Wings Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings, sections
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

Toppings: Sliced Scallions, Sesame Seeds or Red Pepper Flakes

Instructions

  • In a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, gochujang, brown sugar, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, garlic, ginger, and ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper. er.
  • Stirring frequently, bring up to a simmer and cook for five minutes. Add scallions and remove from heat; set aside.
  • Following the manufacturer’s instructions, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees f for 3-5 minutes.
  • Place chicken wing sections in a large bowl.
  • Add salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and remaining black pepper and toss to coat.
  • Add cornstarch and thoroughly incorporate.
  • Place wings in an air fryer basket, shaking off the excess cornstarch mixture. Work in batches if the air fryer is too small to accommodate all chicken wings in a single layer.
  • Set air fryer timer for 28 minutes, shaking basket after 10 minutes and flipping wings over after another 8 minutes.
  • Serve with sauce and garnishes.

Notes

What can I use as a substitute for gochujang? 
If you don't have gochujang, you can use a combination of Sriracha and soy sauce as a substitute. You can also make a homemade gochujang by combining red pepper flakes, soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar.
