Description

This easy Omaha Steak Seasoning recipe blends dried garlic, onion, orange peel, red bell pepper, and a touch of sugar and salt for a savory, slightly citrusy copycat of the famous shaker. Mix it in 5 minutes and use it on steak, burgers, chicken, and more.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dried minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon dried orange peel

  • ½ teaspoon coarse black pepper, optional
  • ¼ teaspoon citric acid, optional

Instructions

  • Combine: Add all ingredients to a small bowl.
  • Mix: Stir until evenly blended.
  • Pulse (optional): For a finer texture, pulse 3 to 4 times in a spice grinder. Do not grind to a powder.
  • Store: Transfer to an airtight jar or spice shaker.
  • Use: Brush meat lightly with oil and sprinkle about 1 teaspoon per side on an 8-ounce steak.

Equipment

  • Small Bowl
  • Measuring spoons

  • Not affiliated with or endorsed by Omaha Steaks. This is an independent copycat recipe.
  • For thick steaks, add an extra pinch of kosher salt if desired.
  • Dried garlic and sugar can darken quickly over very high direct heat. Sear, then finish over medium heat.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
