Description

Creamy, smoky, and sweet — this 5-minute copycat tastes just like the McDonald's dipping sauce, with no cooking required. Perfect for nuggets, fries, burgers, and more.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce, a sweet, smoky variety works best
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons adobo sauce, from a can of chipotle peppers in adobo
  • 1 teaspoon honey, or brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, or lime juice
  • ¼ teaspoon salt, to taste

Instructions

  • Combine the base. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, and ketchup until smooth.
  • Add the smoky heat. Stir in the adobo sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Balance it out. Add the honey and vinegar (or lime juice), then taste. Adjust sweetness, heat, and salt until it tastes right to you.
  • Rest, then serve. Cover and chill for at least 20 to 30 minutes so the flavors meld. Serve cold.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Notes

  • Heat level: For a milder sauce, reduce the adobo to ½ teaspoon. For more kick, finely mince a whole chipotle pepper and stir it in.
  • Smoother texture: Blend everything with an immersion blender for a silky, restaurant-style finish.
  • Make ahead: Tastes even better the next day.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Freezing isn't recommended for mayo-based sauces.
