Description

Homemade hot honey BBQ sauce made with ketchup, hot honey, and smoky spices. Sweet, spicy, and ready in 15 minutes for wings, ribs, and chicken.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup hot honey, or ½ cup honey + 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Whisk all ingredients together in a small saucepan until completely smooth, before heating.
  • Place over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Simmer 8 to 10 minutes, stirring often and scraping the bottom, until slightly thickened and glossy.
  • Remove from heat. Taste and adjust — more hot honey for sweet heat, more vinegar for tang, more salt if flat.
  • Cool at least 15 minutes before using. The sauce thickens as it cools.

Equipment

  • Small Saucepan
  • Spoon

Notes

Makes about 2 cups. Keeps refrigerated up to 2 weeks or frozen up to 3 months. Heat intensifies overnight.
