Description

An easy, all-purpose honey garlic sauce that's sweet, savory, and ready in about 10 minutes. Perfect on wings, stir-fry, salmon, and tofu.

Ingredients

  • cup honey
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup water, divided
  • 3 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced (~2 Tbsp), divided
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar, optional
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger, optional
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  • Whisk the cornstarch into 2 Tbsp of the water until smooth; set the slurry aside.
  • In a small saucepan, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, remaining water, rice vinegar, brown sugar (if using), and about two-thirds of the garlic.
  • Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, reduce to a simmer, then whisk in the slurry. Cook 3–5 minutes, stirring often, until glossy and it coats a spoon.
  • Off the heat, stir in the remaining fresh garlic (and ginger or chili flakes if using). Cool slightly — it thickens as it sits.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Notes

Notes: Store in an airtight container in the fridge up to 2 weeks; stir before using. For gluten-free, use tamari; for vegan, use maple syrup. One serving = 2 Tbsp.
