A 5-minute homemade copycat of the classic Old El Paso taco seasoning packet that is cheaper, lower in sodium, free of fillers, and completely customizable. Makes about 2 tablespoons (1 packet) to season 1 pound of meat.
Ingredients
1tablespoonchili powder
1teaspoonground cumin
1teaspoonpaprika, smoked, for extra depth
½teaspoononion powder
½teaspoongarlic powder
½teaspoonfine sea salt
½teaspoongranulated sugar
¼teaspoondried oregano
¼teaspooncornstarch, optional; thickens the pan sauce; omit for gluten-free
¼teaspooncayenne pepper, optional, for heat
⅛teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a small bowl.
Whisk together until evenly combined and uniform in color, with no streaks.
Use immediately, or transfer to an airtight jar and store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.

To season meat: Brown and drain 1 pound of ground meat. Stir in the full batch of seasoning plus ½ cup water. Simmer 3 to 5 minutes until thickened and the sauce clings.Notes

For a big batch, multiply every ingredient by 10 and it fills a pint jar perfectly.
Gluten-free and Whole30: omit the cornstarch and sugar.
