Make perfectly crispy frozen hash browns in the air fryer in just 10 minutes! Works for hash brown patties AND shredded hash browns. Includes a brand guide, two-stage crispy method, and breakfast sandwich ideas.
Ingredients
4frozen hash brown patties, any brand
1teaspoonscooking spray or avocado oil, optional
0.3teaspoonssalt, to taste
0.1teaspoonsblack pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 3 minutes
Optional — spray patties: Lightly spray both sides of the frozen patties with cooking spray or avocado oil for extra crispiness. Skip if you prefer no added oil — most brands already contain oil and will crisp without it.
Place in basket: Arrange 4 frozen hash brown patties (any brand) in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not stack or overlap — leave a small gap between each patty so hot air can circulate freely.
Air fry — first side: Air fry at 400°F for 5 minutes
. Do not open the basket early — let the bottom side fully crisp before flipping.
Flip and finish: Open the basket and flip each patty with a spatula or tongs. If a patty sticks, give it 1 more minute — a crisped bottom releases easily. Return to air fryer and cook for another 4–5 minutes until deeply golden brown on both sides.
Rest and season: Transfer to a plate and rest for 2 minutes — they continue crisping as they cool. Season with 0.3 teaspoons salt, to taste and 0.1 teaspoons black pepper, to taste and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
For extra crispy results: Use the two-stage method — cook at 320°F for 5 minutes, then increase to 370°F for 5–7 minutes. This thaws the interior gently before crisping the outside hard.Shredded hash browns: Toss with 1–2 tbsp olive oil and seasoning, spread in a lined basket, and cook at 375°F for 17–20 minutes, stirring every 5–6 minutes.Don't thaw first — frozen patties go straight from freezer to basket for the crispiest results.Reheating leftovers: Air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes. Never microwave — it makes them rubbery.
