This easy Christmas trifle dessert layers red velvet and green vanilla cake with a creamy cheesecake-style filling. A festive, make-ahead holiday showstopper that feeds a crowd.
Ingredients
1red velvet cake, baked and cooled
1green vanilla cake, vanilla sponge with green food coloring, baked and cooled
3cupswhipped cream, or stabilized whipped topping
1cupcream cheese, softened
1/2cuppowdered sugar
1tspvanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare both cakes according to recipe or box instructions. Cool completely, then crumble into bite-sized chunks.
In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped cream to make the filling.
In a trifle dish, layer red velvet cake, cream mixture, green vanilla cake, and cream mixture. Repeat, alternating colors, until the dish is full.
Finish with a top layer of cream and sprinkle both red and green cake crumbs over the top for decoration.
Chill at least 1 hour before serving. Serve cold.
