Description

Crispy on the outside and soft and custardy in the middle, these air fryer French toast bites are ready in about 20 minutes with no flipping and no skillet. Perfect for dipping in maple syrup!

Ingredients

  • 4 slices thick-cut bread, brioche, challah, or Texas toast, preferably day-old, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk, whole milk preferred; oat or almond milk work
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Cooking spray
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or whipped cream, for serving

Instructions

  • Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes. If the bread is very fresh, let the cubes sit out for 15–20 minutes to dry slightly.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth and fully combined.
  • Add the bread cubes to the bowl and gently toss until evenly coated. Let them soak for 1–2 minutes — no longer, or the bites will turn soggy.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 3–5 minutes. Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray.
  • Arrange the coated bread cubes in a single layer in the basket, leaving space between them. Work in batches if needed.
  • Air fry at 370°F for 8–10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the French toast bites are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve immediately with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

  • Bread matters: Day-old brioche, challah, or Texas toast holds the custard best. Thin sandwich bread may fall apart.
  • Quick soak only: A 1–2 minute toss coats the bread perfectly; a longer soak makes soggy bites.
  • Don't crowd the basket: A single layer with airflow is the key to crispy edges.
  • Storage: Refrigerate up to 3 days or freeze up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes (5–6 from frozen).
