A 5-minute copycat Starbucks peppermint mocha made with espresso, chocolate sauce, and peppermint syrup. Costs about 80 cents a cup and works hot or iced.
Ingredients
1tbsppeppermint syrup, or ⅛ tsp peppermint extract
1½tbspchocolate sauce
½cupbrewed coffee hot
⅔cupwhole milk
1tbspwhipped cream, for topping
1tspdark chocolate, shaved, for topping
1tspchocolate syrup, for drizzling
Instructions
Hot Peppermint Mocha
Add the peppermint syrup and chocolate sauce to your mug first, before any liquid. Chocolate sauce won't dissolve once milk is in.
Pour the hot coffee over the syrup and sauce. Stir until completely smooth.
Warm the milk to about 150°F and froth. Don't let it boil — scalded milk won't hold foam.
Pour the frothed milk over the mocha base, holding the foam back with a spoon. Spoon the foam on top.
Top with whipped cream, dark chocolate shavings, and crushed candy canes.
Iced Peppermint Mocha
Stir the syrup and chocolate sauce into hot espresso, then let it cool 5 minutes.
Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the base over.
