Description

Crispy homemade apple chips made in the air fryer with no oil and no corn syrup — a cleaner copycat of store-bought Seneca apple chips, ready in about fifteen minutes.

Ingredients

  • 5 small apples, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoons granulated sugar, optional
  • Cooking spray, optional

Instructions

  • Core the apples and slice them 1/8 inch thick, ideally using a mandoline for even thickness.
  • Sprinkle the slices lightly with salt and let them rest 5 minutes, then blot dry with a paper towel.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 300°F and lightly spray the basket.
  • Combine the cinnamon and sugar, if using, and toss the apple slices until evenly coated.
  • Arrange the slices in a single layer in the basket, working in batches as needed.
  • Air fry for 16 to 20 minutes, flipping every 5 minutes, until the edges curl and the surface looks dry and matte.
  • Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely — the chips crisp as they cool.

Equipment

  • Apple Corer
  • Mandoline
  • Gloves For Protection
  • Cooking Spray

Notes

Slice thickness matters more than any other variable. If the chips are still bendy after 10 minutes of cooling, return them to the air fryer for 2 more minutes. Store airtight at room temperature for up to one week.
