Description
A thick, sweet, smoky copycat of Hardee's Sweet & Bold BBQ dipping sauce, made in one saucepan with pantry ingredients.
Ingredients

ketchup

dark brown sugar

molasses

tablespoons
apple cider vinegar

tablespoon
Worcestershire sauce

teaspoon
yellow mustard

teaspoon
smoked paprika

teaspoon
garlic powder
½
teaspoon
onion powder
½
teaspoon
black pepper
¼
teaspoon
cayenne pepper
,
optional
½
teaspoon
liquid smoke
,
hickory

tablespoons
water
Instructions
Whisk all ingredients together in a small saucepan until smooth.
Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low. Cook 8 to 10 minutes, stirring often, until slightly thickened and darkened.
Taste; adjust with a little more brown sugar, vinegar, or pepper if needed.
Pour into a jar, cool to room temperature, and refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes
Keeps 3 weeks refrigerated or 3 months frozen.
Honey Q version: swap the brown sugar for ¼ cup honey and omit the cayenne.
For the thinner Western Bacon Cheeseburger sauce, add 2 more tablespoons of water and use 1 tablespoon molasses.
