Description
Thick, creamy, and packed with real cookie shards — the drive-thru shake, made at home in five minutes with four ingredients.
Ingredients
3
cups
full-fat vanilla ice cream
,
frozen solid
⅓
cup
whole milk
,
plus more as needed
8
chocolate sandwich cookies
,
divided
½
teaspoon
pure vanilla extract
Whipped cream and maraschino cherries
,
for serving
Instructions
Chill two glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Place 6 cookies in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin into pea-sized pieces and crumbs. Set the remaining 2 cookies aside for garnish.
Pour the milk into the blender first, then add the ice cream and vanilla extract.
Blend on low for 20 to 30 seconds, until smooth and thick. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time only if the blender stalls.
Add the crushed cookies and pulse 3 to 4 times, just to distribute. Do not blend smooth.
Pour into the chilled glasses, top with whipped cream, the reserved crushed cookies, and a cherry. Serve immediately with a wide straw and a spoon.

Notes
Ice cream must be frozen solid. Softened ice cream is the number one cause of a thin shake.
For an extra-thick shake, reduce the milk to ¼ cup and blend in 2 tablespoons of instant vanilla pudding mix.
To fix a shake that came out too thin, freeze the filled glass for 10 minutes rather than re-blending.
