Description

Thick, creamy, and packed with real cookie shards — the drive-thru shake, made at home in five minutes with four ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups full-fat vanilla ice cream, frozen solid
  • cup whole milk, plus more as needed
  • 8 chocolate sandwich cookies, divided
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream and maraschino cherries, for serving

Instructions

  • Chill two glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  • Place 6 cookies in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin into pea-sized pieces and crumbs. Set the remaining 2 cookies aside for garnish.
  • Pour the milk into the blender first, then add the ice cream and vanilla extract.
  • Blend on low for 20 to 30 seconds, until smooth and thick. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time only if the blender stalls.
  • Add the crushed cookies and pulse 3 to 4 times, just to distribute. Do not blend smooth.
  • Pour into the chilled glasses, top with whipped cream, the reserved crushed cookies, and a cherry. Serve immediately with a wide straw and a spoon.

Equipment

  • Glasses
  • Blender

Notes

  • Ice cream must be frozen solid. Softened ice cream is the number one cause of a thin shake.
  • For an extra-thick shake, reduce the milk to ¼ cup and blend in 2 tablespoons of instant vanilla pudding mix.
  • To fix a shake that came out too thin, freeze the filled glass for 10 minutes rather than re-blending.
