Creamy, smoky-sweet copycat of the Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce from Chick-fil-A's grilled chicken sandwiches. No cooking, five minutes of whisking, and a 30-minute chill.
Ingredients
½cupmayonnaise, real, full-fat
3tablespoonshoney
1tablespoonyellow mustard
1tablespoonapple cider vinegar
1teaspoontomato paste
½teaspoonsmoked paprika
¼teaspoongarlic powder
¼teaspoononion powder
¼teaspoonliquid smoke, optional, start with ⅛ teaspoon
⅛teaspoonsalt, or to taste
⅛teaspoonblack pepper
1teaspoonwater, as needed to thin
Instructions
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, honey, yellow mustard, and apple cider vinegar until smooth.
Whisk in the tomato paste, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and liquid smoke (if using) until the color is even and no streaks remain.
Season with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust: more honey for sweetness, more vinegar for tang, more smoked paprika for smoke. Whisk in water, 1 teaspoon at a time, if you want a thinner, drizzle-able sauce.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Stir before using.
Equipment
Small mixing bowl
Whisk
Airtight jar or squeeze bottle
Notes
Bottled BBQ shortcut: replace the tomato paste with 2 tablespoons smoky bottled BBQ sauce, skip the liquid smoke, and reduce honey to 2 tablespoons.
Storage: refrigerate up to 2 weeks. Do not freeze.
Taste after chilling; the sauce mellows and sweetens as it rests.
