Description

Make the classic Arthur Treacher’s Chicken Sandwich at home—crispy golden chicken, soft bun, and tangy tartar sauce for the ultimate comfort food.

Ingredients 

  • ½ pounds chicken breast, or thigh pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Seasoned Flour Mixture:

  • 1 cup flour ,
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Optional Toppings:

  • 2 cups prepared coleslaw, optional
  • ½ cup Russian-style dressing, optional
  • 4 soft sandwich buns

Instructions

  • Submerge the ½ pounds chicken breast in 1 cup buttermilk for at least two hours (overnight is even better). This keeps them moist and tender.
  • Set up three bowls—one with 1 cup flour , 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon paprika1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper another with 2 large eggs and a third with 1 cup bread crumbs mixed with spices.
  • Pat dry the chicken, then coat it in flour, dip into the egg, and press into the breadcrumb mixture for a solid crust.
  • Air fry at 375°F for 25–30 minutes (flip halfway), or bake/fry until golden and cooked through.
  • Layer your chicken on a 4 soft sandwich buns, add 2 cups prepared coleslaw and a generous drizzle of ½ cup Russian-style dressing, and top with the other bun.
