Description

The air fryer does something no stovetop or microwave can — it crisps the casing until it blisters and snaps, while keeping the inside hot and juicy, in under 10 minutes. Once you make hot dogs this way, you won't go back.

Ingredients

  • 4 all-beef hot dogs, natural casing recommended — Nathan's or Hebrew National
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • Toppings of your choice

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 2–3 minutes.
  • Score each hot dog with 4–6 shallow diagonal cuts, 1/8 inch deep.
  • Place hot dogs in a single layer in the basket, not touching.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 4–6 minutes, flipping at the halfway point. Done when golden-brown and casing is tight.
  • Place hot dogs in buns. Return to air fryer at 400°F for 1–2 minutes to toast the buns.
  • Add toppings and serve immediately.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

Notes

  • Natural casing hot dogs (Nathan's, Vienna Beef) produce the best snap — the casing crisps and tightens audibly in the basket.
  • Single layer only — overlapping causes steaming, not crisping.
  • Frozen hot dogs: 380°F for 9–12 minutes, flip at 5 min. No thawing needed.
  • Jumbo dogs: 400°F for 6–8 minutes.
  • Reheat leftovers: 350°F for 2–3 minutes.
