Description

Crispy air fryer frozen okra, cooked straight from the freezer in 20 minutes with no thawing and no sliminess. A fast, low-calorie Southern side dish.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces frozen cut okra
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, or olive oil spray
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder, optional
  • ½ teaspoon paprika, optional
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C) for 3 minutes.
  • Place the frozen okra in a bowl. Add the olive oil, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings, and toss to coat. Do not thaw the okra first.
  • Spread the okra in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if your basket is smaller than 5 quarts.
  • Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking the basket or turning the okra with tongs at the halfway point.
  • The okra is done when it is golden brown with blistered edges. Add 3 minutes if it still looks pale.
  • Season with additional salt if needed and serve immediately.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

  • Breaded frozen okra: reduce to 10–12 minutes at 400°F and skip the seasoning.
  • Whole frozen pods: increase to 20–24 minutes and halve any thick pods.
  • Leftovers keep 2–3 days refrigerated; reheat at 375°F for 3–4 minutes.
