Crispy-edged, tender frozen butternut squash cooked straight from the bag in 15 minutes. No thawing, no peeling, no chopping — just the pat-dry trick that finally gets it to caramelize.
Ingredients
12ouncesfrozen butternut squash cubes, about 2½ cups
1tablespoonolive oil
½teaspoonsalt, plus more to taste
¼teaspoonground black pepper
1teaspoongarlic powder, smoked paprika, or cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 3–5 minutes.
Pour the frozen butternut squash onto a clean towel or paper towels and blot to remove surface ice and frost. Do not skip this step — it is what allows the squash to brown instead of steam.
Transfer to a bowl and toss with olive oil until every piece is coated. Add salt, pepper, and optional seasonings and toss again.
Arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket with space between the pieces. Cook in two batches if needed.
Air fry at 400°F for 15 minutes, shaking the basket firmly at the 7-minute mark.
The squash is done when a fork pierces it with no resistance and the edges are deep golden. If tender but pale, add 3 more minutes.
Rest 3 minutes before serving. Taste and add salt, and finish with lemon juice, butter, or Parmesan if desired.
