Description

Crispy Air Fryer Fried Clams made from frozen in under 15 minutes — no oil and no mess. This easy method works for both clam strips and whole bellies, delivering a golden, shatteringly crisp coating every time.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces frozen breaded clam strips or clam bellies
  • Cooking spray, only for raw, uncooked breaded clams
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes so the basket is hot before the clams go in.
  • Add the frozen clam strips to the basket in a single layer. Do not thaw them first, or they will turn soggy.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 5 to 7 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through so every piece crisps evenly.
  • Check for doneness. The clams should be golden and crisp all over. If needed, air fry an additional 2 to 4 minutes.
  • Serve immediately with lemon wedges and tartar or cocktail sauce for dipping.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

  • Always start from frozen. Thawing releases moisture and leads to limp, watery clams.
  • Don't crowd the basket. A single layer lets hot air reach every surface; cook in batches if needed.
  • Raw breaded clams: Lightly mist with cooking spray and add 2 to 3 extra minutes.
  • Whole-belly clams: Check at the 5-minute mark so the breading doesn't overcook before the center warms through.
  • Reheat leftovers at 375°F for 3 to 4 minutes to bring back the crunch. Avoid the microwave.
