Air fryer egg in a hole cooks in 8 minutes flat — crispy buttered toast with a perfectly runny egg in the center. Four ingredients, one basket, no frying pan.
Ingredients
4slicesbread, ½-inch thick
4teaspoonsbutter, softened
4largeeggs
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat the air fryer to 350°F for 3 minutes.
Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper or a parchment round.
Spread butter on both sides of each slice of bread.
Using a 2½-inch biscuit cutter or the rim of a drinking glass, cut a hole in the center of each slice. Reserve the cut-out circles.
Place the bread in the lined basket in a single layer, without overlapping. Add the bread circles to any empty space.
Crack one egg into the hole of each slice.
Air fry at 350°F for 6 to 8 minutes, until the egg whites are opaque and set. Start checking at 6 minutes for a runny yolk.
Remove with a thin spatula, season with salt and pepper, and serve immediately.
Equipment
Air Fryer (4-quart or larger)
Parchment paper rounds or air fryer liner
2½-inch biscuit cutter or drinking glass,
Thin spatula
Notes
Always line the basket. Raw egg white runs through an unlined basket and burns onto the element.
Doneness guide: 6 minutes for runny, 7 for jammy, 8–9 for fully set.
Don't crowd the basket — bread must lie flat in a single layer.
Cheese goes on in the last 2 minutes only.
Cooking times vary by model; basket-style air fryers usually run 1 minute faster than oven-style.
