Description

This air fryer Cuban sandwich layers roast pork, ham, Swiss, pickles and mustard on buttery Cuban bread, pressed and crisped in about 9 minutes. A classic Cubano without a sandwich press, plus an easy way to reheat leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Cuban bread, about 24 inches, or 4 hoagie rolls
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced ham
  • 1/2 pound cooked roast pork or pork tenderloin, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup dill pickle sandwich slices, patted dry
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise, optional

Instructions

  • Cut the bread into 4 pieces about 6 inches long, then split each lengthwise.
  • Spread mustard (and mayonnaise, if using) on the cut sides.
  • Layer 1 slice Swiss, 1/4 of the ham, 1/4 of the pork, 1/4 of the pickles and another slice of Swiss on each bottom piece. Close the sandwiches.
  • Butter the top and bottom of each sandwich.
  • Air fry at 360°F for 5 minutes. Flip, press firmly with a spatula and air fry 3 to 4 minutes more, until golden and melted. Work in batches so the sandwiches don't touch.
  • Rest 1 minute, slice diagonally and serve.

Equipment

  • Serrated bread knife
  • Wide spatula (for flipping and pressing)
  • Small metal air fryer rack (optional, for pressing)
  • Toothpicks (optional, keeps the top in place)

Notes

To reheat, wrap in foil and air fry at 350°F for 5 minutes, then unwrap and cook 2 minutes more. Calculate nutrition in the recipe plugin after updating the ingredients.
