Description

Savory air fryer cheddar bacon scones with sharp cheddar, crisp bacon, and diced apple. Flaky, golden, and ready in 35 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup apple, diced small and patted dry
  • 3 strips bacon, cooked crisp and diced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water, cold

Instructions

  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl.
  • Add the cold cubed butter. Cut it in with a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter still visible.
  • Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until the dough begins to come together. It will look shaggy — do not overmix.
  • Fold in the shredded cheddar, diced apple, and cooked bacon until just distributed.
  • Spray a scone pan with cooking spray and press the dough into the molds, filling the corners.
  • Whisk the egg with the cold water and brush over the tops.
  • Air fry at 320°F on the air fryer setting for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Rest 5 minutes in the pan, then turn out. Serve warm.

Equipment

  • Silicone scone pan (cuttable, fits any basket air fryer),
  • Metal scone pan (for air fryer ovens)
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Pastry blender or bench scraper
  • Box grater
  • Pastry Brush
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Cooking spray or parchment paper

Notes

  • All air fryers run differently. Check at 10 minutes the first time you make these.
  • Oven method: 400°F for 18 to 22 minutes, rack in the upper third.
  • Store airtight up to 2 days at room temperature or 4 days refrigerated. Reheat at 320°F for 3 to 4 minutes.
