A crisp, golden air fryer Caprese sandwich with melted fresh mozzarella, ripe tomato, and fragrant basil, finished with balsamic glaze. Fifteen minutes, and none of the sogginess that usually comes with air-fried sandwiches.
Ingredients
4slicessourdough bread, ½ inch thick
2tablespoonsbutter or mayonnaise, softened
6ouncesfresh mozzarella, sliced and patted dry
1largebeefsteak tomato, sliced ¼ inch thick
8fresh basil leaves
1tablespoonbalsamic glaze
¼teaspoonkosher salt
¼teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
Lay the tomato slices on paper towel, sprinkle with salt, and let drain 10 minutes. Blot dry. Pat the mozzarella slices dry between paper towels.
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
Spread butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice, covering edge to edge.
Place two slices butter side down. Layer mozzarella, basil leaves, tomato, then remaining mozzarella. Season with black pepper.
Top with the remaining bread, butter side up. Secure each sandwich with two toothpicks.
Air fry 4 minutes. Flip and air fry 3 to 4 minutes more, until deep golden and the cheese is melting at the edges.
Remove the toothpicks and rest 1 minute. Open, drizzle with balsamic glaze, close, and slice on the diagonal.
