Description

Air Fryer Butter Swim Biscuits are buttery, golden, and impossibly easy. There's no kneading or rolling — you stir a soft dough in one bowl, pour it over a pool of melted butter, and air fry until the tops are golden and the edges are crisp. Ready in about 25 minutes, they're perfect for breakfast, brunch, or alongside any dinner.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup butter, melt
  • Optional: extra melted butter for brushing on top after air frying.

Instructions

  • Lightly grease a 6- to 7-inch round or square pan that fits inside your air fryer basket. (Use an 8-inch pan in a larger air fryer.)
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Pour in the buttermilk and stir just until a soft, wet dough forms — do not overmix.
  • Pour the melted butter into the prepared pan. Spoon the dough evenly over the butter and gently spread it to the edges.
  • Using a knife, score the dough into squares so the biscuits are easy to separate after cooking.
  • Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 12–16 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and a biscuit reads about 200°F (93°C) in the center.
  • Brush the warm biscuits with a little extra melted butter if desired. Serve warm and enjoy.

Equipment

  • 6- to 7-inch baking pan with tall sides
  • Mixing Bowl

Notes

  • No buttermilk? Add 2 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar to a measuring cup, fill to 2 cups with milk, and rest 5 minutes.
  • Pan size matters — use a pan with at least 1½–2 inch sides so the butter doesn't overflow.
  • Fresh baking powder is essential for tall, fluffy biscuits.
  • Storage: Airtight at room temperature up to 2 days, refrigerated up to 1 week, or frozen up to 3 months. Reheat in the air fryer to re-crisp.
