Description

Flaky crescent dough wrapped around shredded chicken, tangy barbecue sauce, sharp cheddar, and bacon, air fried to golden brown in six minutes. An easy weeknight dinner or party appetizer that uses one can of dough and leftover chicken.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces crescent roll dough, (or pizza dough)
  • 1 cup cooked chicken, shredded
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons red onion, diced (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 2 to 4 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until the chicken is evenly coated.
  • Unroll the crescent dough on a flat surface and separate it into 8 triangles. Spoon a heaping tablespoon of the chicken mixture onto the wide end of each triangle. Top with shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon, and diced red onion.
  • Roll each triangle from the wide end toward the point. Press the seams closed with a fork to seal.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper. Arrange the crescent rolls in a single layer, not touching.
  • Air fry at 375°F for 5 to 6 minutes, until golden brown and crisp. Brush with melted butter during cooking for extra richness, if desired.
  • Let the crescent rolls rest for 3 to 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Equipment

  • Cooking spray or parchment paper, optional

Notes

  • Do not overfill. More than a heaping tablespoon of filling will cause the seams to split during cooking.
  • Cook time varies by air fryer model and basket size. Check at 4 minutes the first time.
  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3 to 4 minutes rather than the microwave.
