Description

Crispy air fryer bacon wrapped onion rings made with just three ingredients. Thin-cut bacon wraps around sweet onion rings and air fries until deeply golden — a naturally keto, low carb appetizer that's ready in under 25 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet onions
  • 16 ounces thin-cut bacon
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce, optional, sugar-free for keto

Instructions

  • Soak the toothpicks in water for 5 minutes. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
  • Slice the onions crosswise into 1-inch rings. Separate them, keeping two rings nested together per bundle. Reserve the small inner rings for another use.
  • Stretch each slice of bacon slightly and wrap it around a bundle of onion rings, overlapping to cover. Secure both ends with soaked toothpicks.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil and arrange the wrapped rings in a single layer, leaving space between them. Work in batches as needed.
  • Air fry at 375°F for 12 to 14 minutes, flipping at the 7-minute mark. If using BBQ sauce, brush it on during the final 3 minutes.
  • They're done when the bacon is deep golden and crisp and a toothpick slides easily into the onion. Rest 2 to 3 minutes, remove the toothpicks, and serve hot.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray, or Parchment Paper
  • wooden toothpicks

Notes

Thin-cut bacon is essential — thick-cut needs longer than the onion can handle. Never stack the rings in the basket; bacon needs airflow to crisp. Leftovers keep 3 days refrigerated and reheat best in the air fryer at 375°F for 5 to 7 minutes.
