Description

Crispy bacon, a soft-set egg, and melted cheese on toasted bread — all cooked in one air fryer basket in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 slice cheese, American, cheddar, Swiss, or gouda
  • 1 teaspoon butter, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (199°C) for 3 minutes.
  • Lay the bacon in a single layer in the basket. Cook 8–10 minutes until crisp, checking at 7. Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate.
  • Grease a small heatproof ramekin. Crack in the egg, season with salt and pepper, and cook at 370°F (188°C) for 3 minutes (runny), 4 minutes (jammy), or 5 minutes (set).
  • Butter one side of each bread slice. Toast butter-side up at 370°F (188°C) for 2–3 minutes.
  • Layer bacon on the bottom slice, then the egg, then the cheese. Top with the second slice.
  • Return the assembled sandwich to the basket at 330°F (166°C) for 1 minute to finish melting the cheese.
  • Rest 1 minute, then cut and serve.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

  • Thick-cut bacon needs 3–4 extra minutes.
  • Cheese under and over the egg keeps the yolk from soaking the bottom slice.
  • Resting for a minute before cutting keeps a runny yolk in the sandwich instead of on the plate.
  • Assembled sandwiches freeze well: wrap in parchment then foil, up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen at 350°F for 6–8 minutes.
