Ingredients

  • 2 6 ounce salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  • Start by making the blackened spice. Mix the paprika, brown sugar, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, thyme, and oregano in a small bowl. Mix well.
  • Then brush the butter onto the salmon and then cover it with the spice mixture.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees F, air fryer setting, for 2-3 minutes.
  • Place the seasoned salmon fillets in the basket of your air fryer, skin side down, ensuring they're not touching or overlapping. This ensures even cooking. For added flavor brush the top of the salmon with melted butter, or drizzle olive oil or avocado oil
  • Set cook time for 8-10 minutes. The exact time might vary based on the thickness of the salmon fillets and your specific air fryer model.
  • The salmon should flake easily with a fork when it's done. Additionally, you can use a meat thermometer; the internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C) when fully cooked.
  • Once cooked, carefully remove the salmon from the air fryer. Drizzle with fresh lemon juice or a sauce of your choice, garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve immediately

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Parchment Paper or Aluminum Foil, optional
  • Cooking Spray

Notes

Storing Leftover Blackened Salmon

Instructions:
  1. Cooling: Allow the blackened salmon to cool completely at room temperature. Do not leave it out for more than two hours.
  2. Packaging: Place the cooled salmon in an airtight container or wrap it securely in aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
  3. Refrigeration: Store the packaged salmon in the refrigerator. For best quality, consume it within 2-3 days.
  4. Freezing: If you plan on storing the salmon for a more extended period, consider freezing it. Place the salmon in a freezer-safe bag or container. Label it with the date and consume within 2 months for best quality.
  5. Reheating: To enjoy your stored blackened salmon, reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes. If reheating from frozen, allow the salmon to thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
  6. Note: When reheating, ensure the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145°F to ensure safety and best texture.

Pro Tip: To retain the most flavor and texture when storing, it's essential to keep the salmon away from air and moisture. Using a vacuum sealer can significantly prolong its shelf life in the freezer.
