Description

Wingstop copycat habanero wings made crispy in the air fryer and tossed in a sticky sweet-and-spicy habanero sauce. This homemade version tastes just like the restaurant favorite — ready in 35 minutes for less than the price of takeout.

Ingredients

For The Wings:

  • 2 pounds chicken wings, split (flats and drumettes)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

For The Copycat Habanero Sauce:

  • 2 fresh habanero peppers, finely minced (use gloves)
  • 1/2 cup mango nectar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken wings completely dry with paper towels.
  • In a large bowl, toss wings with cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until evenly coated.
  • Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for 22–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until deeply golden and crispy.
  • While wings cook, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add minced habaneros and sauté 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in mango nectar, honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Simmer 5–7 minutes until sauce is slightly thickened and glossy.
  • Transfer hot wings to a large bowl. Pour habanero sauce over wings and toss to coat evenly.
  • Serve immediately with ranch or blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

- Always wear gloves when handling habaneros — the oils
cling to skin for hours.
- For a milder version, use one habanero and remove all
seeds and ribs.
- For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne or splash of
habanero hot sauce.
- To make gluten-free, swap soy sauce for tamari or
coconut aminos.
- No air fryer? Bake at 425°F for 40–45 minutes,
flipping halfway.
- Sauce can be made up to 1 week ahead and refrigerated.
