Description

Recreate the rich, savory, and perfectly smooth brown gravy famous at Texas Roadhouse! This easy copycat recipe uses a classic roux base and a simple blend of seasonings, including a secret ingredient, to deliver deep, beefy flavor without needing any meat drippings. It's the ultimate comfort topping for mashed potatoes, Country Fried Steak, and more.

Ingredients 

  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 cups Beef Broth, or Stock
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Ketchup, or Tomato Paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder , to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, melt the 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter over medium heat. Once melted, sprinkle in the 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • Whisk the butter and flour constantly for 2–3 minutes until the mixture (the roux) is a light golden-brown color and smells slightly nutty.
  • Slowly pour about 1/2 cup of the beef broth into the roux while whisking vigorously and constantly until the mixture is smooth and thick.
  • Gradually whisk in the remaining beef broth until the gravy base is fully combined and smooth.
  • Whisk in the 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce, 1 teaspoon Ketchup (or tomato paste), 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder , and 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder.
  • Bring the gravy to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, whisking occasionally, until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat, then taste and adjust seasoning with 1 teaspoon Salt and 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper as needed. Serve immediately while warm.
