Notes
Macerate the strawberries. Toss the sliced berries with a teaspoon of sugar and let them sit 10 minutes before adding — it draws out their juices for deeper flavor.
Adjust the sweetness. Start with less strawberry syrup and add more to taste, especially if your lemonade is already on the sweet side.
No syrup? Use puree. Swap the strawberry syrup for an equal amount of fresh strawberry puree (just blend a few berries).
Make it frozen. Blend the lemonade, syrup, and strawberries with a cup of ice for a slushy version.
Make ahead. Stir together the lemonade and syrup and refrigerate up to 3 days; add fresh ice and strawberries just before serving so they stay firm and bright.
Scale it up for a pitcher. Multiply the amounts by 6–8 and stir in a large pitcher, then pour over individual glasses of ice.
Best fresh. This drink is at its best right after mixing — the strawberries soften and the ice dilutes it if it sits too long.
