Description

This copycat Steak 'n Shake Birthday Cake Shake blends a homemade Ninja Creami vanilla ice cream base with frosted yellow cake and rainbow sprinkles. Topped with whipped cream and a cherry, it tastes just like birthday cake in a glass.

Ingredients

Vanilla Ice Cream Base

  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup whole milk

Shake

  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 slice frosted yellow cake or 2 frosted yellow cupcakes, cut into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles

Topping

  • Whipped cream
  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • 2 maraschino cherries

Instructions

  • Microwave the cream cheese for about 10 seconds until softened. Whisk in the sugar and vanilla until smooth.
  • Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and whole milk until the sugar dissolves.
  • Pour into an empty Ninja Creami pint without going past the max fill line. Cover and freeze on a level surface for 24 hours.
  • Remove the pint from the freezer and take off the lid. Create a 1½-inch-wide well down to the bottom of the pint.
  • Add the milk, half of the cake pieces, and 1 tablespoon of sprinkles to the well.
  • Place the pint in the outer bowl, lock the lid, and run the MILKSHAKE program.
  • For extra cake chunks, create a new well, add the remaining cake, and run the MIX-IN program.
  • Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry. Serve immediately.

Equipment

  • Ninja Creami and pint container
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Whisk

Notes

  • Blender version: Blend 3 cups vanilla ice cream, ½ cup milk, ½ teaspoon vanilla, and half the cake until smooth. Add the remaining cake and sprinkles and pulse 2 to 3 times.
  • Thinner shake: Add an extra splash of milk and re-spin on MILKSHAKE.
  • Food safety: Use baked cake rather than dry cake mix, since raw flour isn't safe to eat uncooked.
  • Make ahead: The frozen base keeps up to 1 week in the freezer.
  • Leftovers: Refreeze in the pint and re-spin on MILKSHAKE with a splash of milk.
