Homemade Old Bay Seasoning --There is no substitute for Old Bay Seasoning. It's the original and best seafood seasoning in the world! If you're a true Marylander, then you know that this spice mix can be found in every single household and restaurant across the state.

Ingredients 

  • 1 tablespoon celery salt
  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground white pepper, or extra black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground bay leaves, crush dried bay leaves in a spice grinder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon sweet smoked paprika, optional, for depth
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, adjust to taste

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl.
  • Whisk thoroughly until the blend is uniform in color, with no streaks of red paprika or pale celery salt.
  • Transfer to an airtight container — a small glass jar with a tight lid works perfectly.
  • Store in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
