Description

Foolproof Air Fryer Sourdough Discard Donuts are light, fluffy, and slightly tangy, made with leftover sourdough starter. Quick, easy, and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet treat.

Ingredients 

  • ½ cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large Egg
  • ¼ cup Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Optional: Powdered Sugar
  • Optional: Glaze, ¼ cup powdered sugar + ½ teaspoon milk or lemon juice
  • Optional: Cinnamon Sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon + 2 teaspoons sugar for coating

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine a1 cup All-Purpose Flour, ¼ cup Sugar , 1 teaspoon Baking Powder b½ teaspoon Baking Soda , and ¼ teaspoon Salt .
  • Stir in ½ cup sourdough discard, 1 large Egg , ¼ cup Milk melted 2 tablespoons Butter, and 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract until the batter is smooth.
  • Lightly grease silicone or metal donut molds with cooking spray.
  • Spoon or pipe batter into molds about ¾ full.
  • Cook at 320°F for 10–14 minutes, checking for doneness. Add 1–2 minutes if needed until fully cooked.
  • Allow donuts to cool slightly before glazing or dusting with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or icing of choice.

Other Cooking Instructions

Oven Method:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan and fill each cavity about ¾ full with batter. Bake 12–15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool before glazing or topping.
Skillet / Pan-Fry Option:
Heat a lightly greased skillet over medium heat. Spoon batter into small rounds and cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden and fully cooked. Cool completely before adding glaze or powdered sugar.
