Whip up these easy sourdough apple fritters using sourdough discard, fresh apples, and warm spices—perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside!
Ingredients
1cupSourdough Starter, active or discard
1 1/2cupsAll-Purpose Flour
2largeEggs
1/2cupMilk, whole or your choice
4tablespoonsButter, melted
1/4cupGranulated Sugar
1teaspoonGround Cinnamon
1/4teaspoonGround Nutmeg
1cupApples, peeled and diced; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
1teaspoonBaking Powder
Vanilla Glaze Ingredients:
1cupPowdered Sugar
3tablespoonsMilk
1/2teaspoonVanilla Extract
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients and sourdough starter. Add the dry ingredients and stir until a thick batter forms.
Gently mix in the diced, spiced apples until evenly distributed. The batter will be thick and sticky—that’s exactly what you want.
Let the batter rest for 30–60 minutes. This helps develop flavor and lets the sourdough starter do a bit of magic.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides.
Once fritters are cool enough to handle, drizzle (or dunk) them in your homemade vanilla glaze.
