If using fresh spinach, rinse and drain well. Roughly chop the spinach. If using frozen spinach, make sure to thaw and drain it thoroughly to remove excess moisture.
In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not browned.
Add the spinach to the skillet, stirring to coat it with the garlic butter. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the spinach is wilted (if using fresh) or heated through (if using frozen).
Pour in the heavy cream and stir to combine. Bring to a gentle simmer, then lower the heat. Stir in the Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg. Continue cooking for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and becomes creamy.
If you want a richer texture, stir in the optional cream cheese. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if necessary. Serve immediately and enjoy!
