Description

Make McDonald's Steak, Egg and Cheese Bagel at home with a seasoned steak patty, grilled onions, a folded egg, American cheese and breakfast sauce on a butter-toasted bagel. Ready in 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Steak patties

  • 12 ounces sirloin steak, very thinly sliced or shaved
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Onions and eggs

  • 1 tablespoon butter, divided
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly slivered
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

To assemble

  • 4 plain bagels, split
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 1/4 cup McDonald's breakfast sauce, linked recipe, or see notes

Instructions

  • Finely chop the steak. Mix with Worcestershire, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Divide into 4 portions and press each into a thin patty, about 4 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Air fry the patties in a single layer for 5 to 6 minutes, flipping halfway, until they reach 160°F inside.
  • Meanwhile, melt half the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion with a pinch of salt for 5 to 6 minutes, until soft and golden. Transfer to a plate.
  • Whisk the eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Add the remaining butter to the skillet and lower heat to medium-low. Pour in half the egg mixture and cook without stirring until set, about 2 minutes. Fold the sides in to form a square, cut in half, and transfer to a plate. Repeat with the remaining eggs.
  • Spread softened butter on the cut sides of the bagels. Air fry cut side up at 360°F for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden.
  • Spread breakfast sauce on both bagel halves. Layer the steak patty, onions, cheese and folded egg on each bottom half. Close and serve hot.

Equipment

  • 10-inch nonstick skillet
  • Instant-read thermometer

Notes

  • Quick breakfast sauce: stir together 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard and 1/4 teaspoon dried dill.
  • For a gooier melt, place the cheese on the steak patties for the last 30 seconds of air frying.
  • Air fryers vary; check the first batch early.
  • Storage and reheating: see the post above.
