A sweet, spicy, peppery, and tangy copycat of McDonald's limited-time Hot Honey Sauce — ready in 5 minutes with pantry staples.
Ingredients
1/2cuphoney
1 to 2tablespoonshot sauce, such as Frank's RedHot or Cholula
1teaspoonapple cider vinegar
1/2teaspoonred pepper flakes
1/4teaspooncayenne pepper, more to taste
1/4teaspoonsmoked paprika, optional
1/4teaspoongarlic powder
1/4teaspoonsalt
Instructions
Add the honey to a small saucepan and warm over low heat until loose and pourable, about 1 minute. Do not let it boil.
Stir in the red pepper flakes, cayenne, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Let the spices steep in the warm honey for 2 to 3 minutes, keeping the heat low.
Remove from the heat and stir in the hot sauce and apple cider vinegar.
Taste and adjust: add more cayenne for heat, more honey to mellow it, or a teaspoon of warm water to thin.
Let cool for about 5 minutes to thicken slightly, then serve or transfer to a jar.
