A 5-minute copycat of Lawry's Taco Spices & Seasonings Mix, including the cocoa powder that gives the original its depth. One batch equals one packet and seasons 1 pound of meat.
Ingredients
1tablespoonchili powder
1teaspoonpaprika
1teaspoonground cumin
1teaspoononion powder
1/2teaspoongarlic powder
1/2teaspoondried oregano
1/2teaspoonunsweetened cocoa powder
1/2teaspoonsalt
1/2teaspoonsugar
1/2teaspooncornstarch
1/4teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a small bowl.
Whisk 30 seconds until the color is even, breaking up any cocoa clumps.
For taco meat: brown 1 pound ground beef and drain. Add the seasoning and 2/3 cup water, then simmer uncovered 7 to 10 minutes until thickened.
Store extra in an airtight jar in a cool, dark place up to 6 months.
