Description

Make crispy and flavorful Captain D’s Hush Puppies at home with this easy air fryer recipe. Perfectly golden with a spicy jalapeño kick, ideal as a seafood or BBQ side dish.

Ingredients 

  • 2 cups cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder,
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk , or milk
  • 1 cup onion , finely diced
  • ½ cup jalapeños, diced

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups cornmeal , 1 cup all-purpose flour , 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt , and 2 tablespoons sugar until evenly combined.
  • Stir in diced 1 cup onion and ½ cup jalapeños for that savory, spicy kick.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the 2 large eggs and 1 ¾ cups buttermilk (or milk) until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the hush puppies light and fluffy.
  • Spray your air fryer pan lightly with cooking spray.
  • Fill each cavity with batter, then place the pan in the air fryer. Set the air fryer temperature to 350 degrees F and set cook for 5-7 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer, so make sure the hush puppies are fully cooked before removing.
  • Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce like tartar sauce or honey butter.
