Description

Crispy, golden Air Fryer Wonton Mozzarella Sticks made with just 2 ingredients in under 20 minutes. The easiest party snack ever — no dredging, no deep frying, just gooey melted cheese tucked inside a shatteringly crisp wonton shell. Perfect for game day, after-school snacks, or last-minute appetizers.

Ingredients

For 16 large sticks (egg roll wrappers):

  • 16 egg roll wrappers
  • 16 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • Olive oil spray
  • ½ cup marinara or pizza sauce, for dipping (optional)

For 24 bite-sized sticks (wonton wrappers):

  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks, cut in half
  • Olive oil spray
  • ½ cup marinara or pizza sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions

  • Chill the cheese. Place the string cheese in the freezer for 10–15 minutes while you set up — this prevents blowouts in the air fryer. If using wonton wrappers, cut each cheese stick in half first.
  • Wrap the sticks. Lay one wrapper flat on a clean surface with a point or edge facing you. Place the cheese stick near the bottom edge, leaving about an inch of wrapper below it. Brush water along all four edges of the wrapper.
  • Roll and seal. Fold the bottom edge up and over the cheese, fold both sides in toward the center (like wrapping a burrito), then continue rolling forward until sealed. Press the seam firmly so there are no gaps — gaps cause cheese leaks.
  • Arrange in the air fryer. Place the wrapped sticks in a single layer in a lightly greased air fryer basket, leaving space between each one. Work in batches if needed.
  • Spray generously. Spray both sides of the sticks with olive oil spray. Don't skip this step — it's what gives them that golden, crispy shell.
  • Air fry at 350°F for 5–8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wrappers are deep golden brown.
  • Rest and serve. Let the sticks rest for 2–3 minutes before serving (the cheese is molten). Serve with warm marinara, ranch, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Equipment

  • Olive oil spray (or avocado oil spray)
  • Pastry brush or small bowl of water,
  • Parchment paper (optional)
  • Tongs

Notes

  • Wonton vs. egg roll wrappers: Wonton wrappers (smaller) make bite-sized sticks — cut cheese in half. Egg roll wrappers (larger) make full-size sticks — leave cheese whole. Don't use spring roll wrappers; they're rice-based and won't work.
  • Make ahead: Wrap raw sticks and freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer bag. Cook straight from frozen at 350°F for 8–10 minutes.
  • Storage: Refrigerate cooked sticks in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes (skip the microwave — it makes them soggy).
  • No air fryer? Bake at 400°F for 8–10 minutes, or deep fry at 350°F for 45–60 seconds.
  • Prevent blowouts: Seal every seam, chill the cheese first, and pull them as soon as they're golden.
