Description

Air Fryer Caramel Apple Hand Pies are ready in about 20 minutes with store-bought pie crust, apple pie filling, and gooey caramel. Flaky, golden, handheld mini pies.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple pie filling
  • tablespoons caramel sauce, divided
  • ½ tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust, thawed to room temperature
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar, optional garnish

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the apple pie filling, vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon of the caramel sauce, and the apple pie spice. Set aside.
  • Roll the thawed pie crust out on parchment paper. Using a biscuit cutter, cookie cutter, or drinking glass, cut out 12 circles. Re-roll scraps as needed.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together to make an egg wash.
  • Brush both sides of each circle with the egg wash and lay them back on the parchment.
  • Place about 1 tablespoon of the caramel apple filling in the center of 6 circles. Leave the remaining 6 plain — these are the tops. Do not overfill.
  • Lay a plain circle over each filled circle. Press the edges together with your fingers, then crimp with a fork to seal.
  • Cut two small slits in the top of each hand pie to vent steam.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
  • Place 4 to 6 hand pies in the basket in a single layer, leaving space between them. Air fry for 5 to 7 minutes, until deep golden brown.
  • Transfer to a wire rack and cool for a few minutes.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and drizzle with the remaining caramel sauce. Serve warm.

Equipment

  • Cooking Spray
  • Parchment Paper, optional

Notes

Do not overfill — one tablespoon per pie is enough, and overfilling is the main reason hand pies split open. Leave space around each pie in the basket so they crisp instead of steam. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer at 320°F for 2 to 3 minutes for the best texture.
