Description

Frozen bratwurst cooked straight from the freezer in the air fryer — juicy inside, browned and blistered outside, ready in under 20 minutes with no thawing.

Ingredients

  • 4 frozen bratwurst, raw/fresh, about 4 oz each
  • 4 brat buns, or hoagie rolls
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened (optional, for toasting buns)
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard, sauerkraut, and onions, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F for 2–3 minutes.
  • Place the frozen brats in the basket in a single layer, leaving space between each. Do not overcrowd — cook in batches if needed.
  • Air fry for 15–18 minutes, flipping once at the 8-minute mark.
  • Remove when an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reads 160°F (165°F if the brats contain poultry). Rest 2–3 minutes.
  • Optional: brush the cut sides of the buns with butter and air fry at 350°F for 45–60 seconds.
  • Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer, Air Fryer Basket or Air Fryer Oven
  • Instant-read thermometer

Notes

  • For a faster cook, use 400°F for 11–13 minutes, flipping at 6 minutes. Casings are more likely to split at this temperature.
  • To prevent bursting, pierce each brat 2–3 times with a fork before cooking.
  • Frozen fully cooked brats need only 8–10 minutes at 350°F.
  • Leftovers keep 3–4 days refrigerated. Reheat at 350°F for 4–6 minutes.
