Description

This might be the best Air Fryer Buttermilk Fried Chicken! Tender, delicious, and this is guaranteed to be one of the best family meals.

Ingredients

Buttermilk Mixture:

  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons salt, optional
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper, optional
  • 1 teaspoon paprika, optional

Flour Mixture:

  • 2 cups all- flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

Other:

  • 4 Boneless Chicken Breasts, or cut up whole chicken, chicken thighs, or legs

Instructions

  • Marinate Chicken: Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl. Pour the buttermilk over them, and add spices, ensuring all pieces are coated. Refrigerate for at least an hour, or overnight for best results.
  • Prepare Coating: In another bowl, mix the flour with your chosen spices. A standard mix could include 1 teaspoon each of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper, but feel free to adjust to your taste.
  • Coat the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, shaking off excess. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, coating it thoroughly.
  • Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C). This may take about 3-5 minutes depending on your model.
  • Arrange Chicken in Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the coated chicken pieces in the basket in a single layer, leaving some space between each piece for even cooking. Spray the top of the chicken lightly with cooking spray.
  • Cook: Air fry the chicken for about 10 minutes. Then, flip the pieces over, spray the other side lightly with cooking spray, and cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. The exact time may vary depending on the size of your chicken pieces and the model of your air fryer.
  • Check for Doneness: The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) when checked with a meat thermometer.
  • Serve: Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps to lock in the juices, making it more tender and flavorful.
