Description

Have you ever seen those amazing star breads in the bakery section and wished you could make them at home? Well, with an air fryer, you can! This recipe is simple to follow and produces a beautiful and delicious star bread. Give it a try!

Ingredients

Bread:

  • 1 cup whole milk, warm
  • 2 teaspoons active yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 stick butter, unsalted & room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 tablespon ground cinnamon

Egg Wash:

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Brown Sugar Glaze:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water, or use orange jucie

Instructions

  • Begin by warming your milk in the microwave for about two minutes (for milk straight from the fridge). If the milk is too hot after microwaving, let it cool until it is warm before going onto step #2.
  • Proofing the yeast: Add the yeast to a mixer bowl with ¼ cup sugar. Pour in the warm milk and stir. Cover with a dish towel and allow to sit for about ten minutes. The yeast mixture will have a froth to it–which is a sign the yeast is active and good to use
  • While the yeast is proofing, preheat your oven to 170F for 15 minutes. Turn off the oven after 10 minutes but keep the door closed.
  • To the yeast and sugar mixture, add flour, salt, the stick of butter, and a large egg. Mix with a paddle or hook attachment if using a stand mixer. Form into a ball when well combined after 3-4 minutes.
  • Spray a large bowl with cooking spray and add the ball of dough. Cover in seran wrap and place in the preheated oven for two hours. Your ball of dough should grow 2-3 times in size. Press any air out once it has finished rising.
  • Optional: For better control of the dough, refrigerate overnight or for a few hours before moving onto the next step.
  • Slice the dough into four equal pieces of dough. Roll each dough piece out to form a disc (think: pizza crust) and shape it into a circle. Placing a large, circular bowl over the dough disc and cutting around the edges is easy to get a perfect circle.
  • Add filling ingredients brown sugar, sugar, and cinnamon together into a bowl and stir.
  • Add 3-4 tablespoons of the filling onto one of the circles of dough (the bottom layer). After adding filling to the bottom layer, add a disc of dough on top. Repeat this process. There are four layers of dough, three having the filling, and the top layer being blank.
  • Place a small bowl in the center of the stack of layers of dough to create an indent. Remove bowl.
  • Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut into 16 slices, leaving the center uncut.
  • Pick up two slices, and twist in opposite directions. Pinch the ends to seal and to form a point. Repeat with all slices.
  • Preheat the air fryer  to 330F. Prepare the egg wash and brush over the bread.
  • Air Fry the bread for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • While the bread is baking, prepare the brown sugar glaze. Brush the glaze onto the bread as soon as it comes out of the oven. Save the extra for adding more later as needed.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!

Equipment
