Instant Pot, Vortex, How to Make A Cake With Cake Box Mix

Air fryer cakes are so easy to make and everyone loves cake. You can make this delicious cake recipe from with our simple instructions.

I love to bake, I have been baking since I was a child, and was given an easy bake oven. Now, that I have an air fryer and Instant Pot, those are my new tools. They replaced my childhood dream toy. But, sometimes cooking with my air fryer, brings me back some fond memories since some of the food is miniature in size.

I have several air fryers, and this remains my favorite, easy to use and easy to clean up. It’s priced VERY reasonably. Here are some of the cakes, I have made in the past, all have been wonderful,

Boston Cream Pie Cake

Carrot Cake With Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting

Cookies ‘n’ Cream (Oreo) Cake

Baking is a science, some of us have it, some of us do not. As a small child, my mother would always bake cakes from mixes. As I got older and I was armed with a husband who loves cakes, I became more adventurous.

Here are some tips for making a cake in the Air Fryer:

    1. Preheat your air fryer, just make sure that you use gloves when you go and put your pan into the air fryer.
    2. Always spray your pan with non-stick cooking spray, just as if you are making a cake in the oven. ( I use whatever I have on hand, either Pam or Baker’s Joy) Trader Joe’s makes a great non-stick cooking spray too.
    3. I cook my cake for the air fryer, low and slow, this makes them brown better and I find that it does take longer but, also makes for a moist cake.
    4. Set the butter and eggs at room temperature.
    5. Use the correct tools to measure dry ingredients,  never use a measuring cup, always use these tools
    6. For a lighter batter, always cream the butter and sugar together.
    7. Allow the cake to cool, just about 10 minutes and you should be able to easily get the cake out of the pan.

You need an air fryer safe pan, in order to make the cake, this is one set that I highly recommend—

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box cake mix, any type

ingredients for above cake (per box, every box is different)

  • 1 container frosting
  • 1 package sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Make the cake mix, per the instructions on the package.
  2. Using non-stick cooking spray, spray an air fryer safe pan (see my suggestion in the recipe instructions)
  3. Then set the air fryer safe pan with the cake mix inside of it into the air fryer. Set the time for 12 minutes at 320 degrees F.
Check the cake is it done? If it is done, pull the cake out and let rest of the counter, for frosting/decoration.
If it is not done, add another 5 minutes and check it. Is it done, if not repeat, until the cake is done?
  4. Remove, the top isn’t so pretty, but we will take care of that in a few minutes after the cake has cooled down.
  5. Cut the top off, so it’s flat, and then flip the cake.
  6. Some frosting and sprinkles.
  7. Plate, serve and enjoy!

I can not get a full batter pan to bake properly at 12 minutes. The center is in cooked. Literally went the time the box called for and still the center wasn’t exactly done. The sides were a little crispy and the center looked like a section of roadway collapsed.

I split the batter into two pans and had slightly better luck.
I’m using the Instant Vortex, some say to use air fryer some say use bake, didn’t seem to matter.

Cake came out nice, but it took about 25 minutes at 320.
