Greek Salad

Greek Salad

A big bowl of Greek Salad. I love a great big salad it goes with so many of my meals, and really provides a great fresh flavor, so whether you are preparing my air fryer ribs or air fryer pork chops, this is a great and healthy side dish.

In America if you order a Greek Salad, you will get a garden salad with some feta and olives on top, which is so not a Greek Salad. In a classical Greek Salad there is no lettuce.

I grew up with many Greek friends, and one of the first Greek Dishes I grew to really love was a great Greek Salad. Filled with feta, red onions, tomatoes, olives, and the easy homemade Greek Salad Dressing. It was a great blend of flavors, and it was usually served with a slice of spanakopita. I loved it!

Greek Salad Ingredients

There are many variations of this recipe. If you search the internet, I went with a classic Greek Salad. With fresh vegetables, olives, and a sprinkle of Feta cheese. Some recipes add in avocados, which I never had, so I omitted them, but if you are looking for even more vegetables in this salad, dice a couple of avocados and toss them in.

  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumbers
  • Red Onions
  • Bell Peppers
  • Kalamata Olives
  • Feta Cheese
  • Greek Dressing
  • Fresh Oregano
  • Fresh Mint

How To Make A Greek Salad

  • Start by dicing all of your vegetables.
  • In a large bowl mix the tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and bell peppers.
  • Mix in the feta cheese and olives into the salad.
  • Add your dressing, and sprinkle with fresh oregano and mint.
  • Plate, serve, and enjoy!

What is a traditional Greek salad?

There are many variations of a Greek Salad, which is also known as Village Salad, adn in Greek it’s reffered to sas Horiatiki. A traditional Greek Salad does not contain any lettuce or green leafty vegablkes, it is a medley of vegetables.

Black Olives or Kalamata Olives?

A lot of the recipes out there call for regular black olives. In a true Greek Salad, Kalamata Olives are used.

The Kalamata Olives are named after the city in Greece, Kalamata they are usually soaked in olive oil, when sold. They are a completely different flavora nd taexture than regualr old black olives in the grocery store.

Kalamata olives are now sold in every American grocery store. Check where you purchase the regular black olives.

Is a Greek salad healthy?

Greek salad is very low in calories, but it provides a lot of Vitamins, such as Vitamins A and C. It is a grreat side dish to serve with most meals.

Can This Salad Be Prepped Ahead Of Time?

Yes, because the longer this salad marinates in the refrigerator, the better it gets. There are no leafy greens to get wilted.

My suggestion would be to hold off on adding the dressing and fresh herbs and then dress the salad right before serving.
