This is such a wonderful fall dessert. I love nothing better than a simple piece of Air Fryer Spice Cake, along with a hot cup of coffee. It makes an amazing breakfast or a great dessert.

Usually, spice cake is served with a soft cream cheese frosting, but I personally thought this cake looked so pretty, it needed nothing. However, I should have dusted it with some powdered sugar, which is super simple.

This spice cake is moist and absolutely perfect. I made this completely by scratch, and it’s fabulous. My personal spice flavors are ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. My entire kitchen was filled with classical fall smells. And the air fryer does such a great job of baking.

Air Fryer Spice Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon all-spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cup buttermilk

Simple Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the dry ingredients, all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, all-spice, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, cream, the shortening, granulated sugar, and brown sugar mix well, and then add the eggs.
  3. Gradually mix the buttermilk into the sugar mixture,
  4. Then slowly add the flour mixture into the wet mix.
  5. Mix until well combined.
  6. Spray your cake pan with either non-stick cooking spray or olive oil spray.
  7. Pour the batter into the cake pan., filling about 2/3 way full.
  8. Set the pan into the air fryer for 15-20 minutes at 320 degrees F. (air fryer setting)
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Note: The actual time will depend on the air fryer you own and your cake pan’s size. Larger cake pans will take longer to bake (air fry) than smaller ones. Depending on the size of your cake pan, you can make one cake or three mini cakes.

Some Helpful Hints For Making Air Fryer Spice Cake-

  1. You do not need to preheat your air fryer.
  2. Make sure to really spray your cake pan well, I always make sure to get the sides, so the cake does not stick.
  3. The best pan that works is a thin pan, even if you have to make 2 cakes it is better to use a thin pan rather than a thick pan. Any time you use a thick pan in the air fryer, you run the chance of the middle not cooking. If you have a Bundt cake pan, this is a great time to use it.
  4. To determine if the cake is done, simply insert a toothpick into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean it’s done, if not give it a few more minutes.
