So, there has been a lot of debate about air frying a steak. I started doing it right after I got my air fryer. The truth was I was too lazy to go out and shovel the path to my grill. I used to live in North (I mean North, where we measure snow in FEET, not inches) New Hampshire, before moving to Philadelphia. Today I will be teaching you my method of Air Fryer Rib Eye Steaks.

I like a good steak, I always have, even before air fryers were a thing. I love grilling.

Today, I wanted to really explain air frying rib eye steaks, so you can get a beautiful piece of meat every time. Because, hey steak is expensive.

What Is A Ribeye Steak?

This steak goes by a lot of different names, I mean, you can either call it Ribeye or Rib Eye, talk about confusing.

The rib eye goes by a lot of different names, including Delmonico, Spencer, sarket steak, or Scotch fillet (Australian and New Zealand).

The rib eye comes from the rib portion of the cow. This piece of meat is known for the marbling because it comes from the best center portion of the eye of the rib steak.

If you serve rib eye with the bone on it is called Tomahawk steak, or like today’s dish, I purchased the steak without the bone, it is just known as a rib-eye steak.

What is Marbling?

As I mentioned above, the rib-eye steaks are saught due to the marbling int eh steak. All marbling really is the white part of the steak, which is fat. The more marbling a steak has the more expensive it is. As the fat as it, air frys (or cooks) keeps the meat around it tender and moist and gives the steak lots of flavor.

Because of all these qualities, the rib eye is a very expensive piece of meat, so if you are starting your air fryer adventure, I would start with another cut of meat.

Steps To Making A Perfect Air Fryer Rib Eye Steaks

Step 1

The meat should be at Room Temperature.

I always advise everyone to take the steak out about 30 to 40 minutes, before you want to air fry it. Why do you ask? Because steak tends to air fry better at room temperature. It will also cook evenly. Cold steak does not grill, air fry, or cook well.

Step 2

Add a fat, if you are air frying or even pan-frying your steak, you need to add fat. I usually add either olive oil or melted butter. Other common options are canola oil, avocado oil, or grapeseed oil.

Step 3

Season your steak. This is where I will leave you to your imagination, I always use good quality salt and pepper. There are a lot of steak seasonings on the market, so if you have your favorite add it now.

Step 4

Preheat your air fryer. If you do not have an air fryer preheat function. Simply turn the air fryer on for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F. (air fryer setting)

Step 5

Add your steak. Add them. If you are having a dinner party, you will not be able to do all of the steaks at one time. Remember you are looking to not crowd your basket because you want them to air fry well.

Step 6

Air fry for 5 minutes per side. This however will depend on a few things, namely your air fryer and how thick your steak is. This is where I recommend purchasing and using a meat thermomter. When you flip the steak, use a pair of tongs or a fork, and then rebaste the meat, with your fat, adn season it. Then continue air frying it.

Step 7

Let your meat rest. After you pull your air fryer steak out of the air fryer, simply leave it on a cutting board, and let it rest for about 5 minutes. The juices will go to the middle so that when you cut open the steak, all of the juices do not run out.

Guide to Steak Temperatures:

  • Rare 130 degrees F
  • Medium Rare 135 degrees F
  • For Medium 145 degrees F
  • Medium Well 150 degrees F
  • Well-Done 160 degrees F.
