What Is In Boxed Au Gratin Potatoes?

Depending on what brand you purchase, they usually come in two different packages: dried-out potatoes and cheese sauce. Then you add boiled water, which helps to rehydrate the potatoes and milk and butter, to make a creamy cheese sauce.

While the traditional method to make these in the oven, they come out absolutely delicious in the Air Fryer!

How to Make Boxed Au Gratin Potatoes in the Air Fryer

In a large bowl, make it per the box’s instructions (boiled water, milk, butter, the potato sauce, and the potato slices), mix until the butter is melted.

How to Make Boxed Au Gratin Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Pour the potato mixture into an air fryer safe pan (usually, if it’s oven safe, it is air fryer safe)

Set the temperature to 330 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes. After 15 minutes, check on the potatoes. The amount of time will depend on what type of pan you used and how thick it is.

How to Make Boxed Au Gratin Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Pro Tips:

  • This recipe will work in any Air Fryer Basket or Oven Model. This recipe will also work in the Ninja Foodi, Instant Pot Vortex, Instant Pot Crisp Lid, PowerXL, GoWise, or Mealthy Lid. The cooking time will vary slightly.
  • For best results, use a thinner pan. This way, the entire dish gets perfectly cooked. If you do not have a quiche or tart pan, use ramekins, and adjust the time accordingly.
  • Check your potatoes about halfway through the cooking process. If you find that they are cooking too quickly, add a piece of aluminum foil wrapped tightly around them.

Leftover au gratin potatoes are a delicious and easy dish to prepare. And, if you’re a big fan of potatoes, then you know that there’s always going to be some leftovers when making this tasty side dish.

For best results, let the Au Gratin Potatoes cool to room temperature and then place them into an airtight container. Placed in the refrigerator, they will last for about 3 to 4 days. You can reheat them in either the microwave or air fryer. Heat until warmed through.
